Remedial Progress

Week Ending February 1, 2013.

The latest site activities continued with Deep Soil Mixing (DSM), importation of DSM materials and transportation and off-site disposal of soils.  The limits of the project area were extended into a portion of the Village of Garden City property to the west in order to prepare the area for additional DSM activities and the construction of a temporary parking lot.

A Project Update mailing dated January 2013 is being prepared for distribution to the Community to provide a project schedule update and a summary of the ongoing remediation work.  This mailing will also be available along with the finalized Remedial Action Work Plan in the Key Documents/Major Reports section of this website. The work is being performed in accordance with the Community Air Monitoring Plan that was reviewed by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, New York State Department of Health and the Nassau County Department of Health. There is an on-site NYSDEC representative monitoring the project activities.

As work proceeds, the web site will be updated periodically to ensure the community is informed of the project progress and schedule.
